Game Description

The Saturday Night Team League is organized much like a bowling league. Teams of 4-6 players of any skill level are welcome to enter. Just like a bowling league, this event is handicapped; the ACBL 90% team handicap chart (based on team average masterpoint holding) will be in effect. This event will include 8 Saturday evening sessions (selected to minimize conflict with KC and national bridge events; see schedule). The first 7 sessions will be head-to-head matches. Your team will play three sets of 9 boards against a different team each session using the 30 Victory Point scale (handicap IMPs are added for all 3 Games and for the Total):

  • Game 1:Boards 1-930VP
  • Game 2:Boards 10-1830VP
  • Game 3:Boards 19-2730VP
  • Total:Boards 1-27*30VP
    120VP possible per session

The teams with the highest accumulated VPs after 7 sessions will compete in head-to-head matches for the top cash prizes in the final session. The number of top cash payouts will depend on the number of teams entered in this event, but first and second place are guaranteed to have cash awards (see Prize Details section). Teams who do not compete for the top cash awards will play in a Swiss team game in the 8th session; a smaller cash prize will be awarded to the Swiss team winners

*Per ACBL rules, Masterpoint awards will ONLY be given for complete 27-board matches in the first 7 sessions (handicapped, with 30 VP total). A separate spreadsheet with the 120VP per session total will be recorded and posted for the cash prize competition.

    Rules & Regulations

This event is sanctioned by the ACBL, and will be conducted in accordance with ACBL rules & procedures. Masterpoints earned for the first 7 sessions will be separate from masterpoints earned in the Final session. Be aware that ACBL rules stipulate that to be eligible for overall masterpoint awards in each case, players must compete in at least 50% of all matches and play at least 40% of all boards.

    No-Shows and Substitutions

If needed, player substitutions are allowed. However, note that handicap will be affected. A substitute cannot be a member of another team. The event coordinator may be able to help find substitutes, but players are ultimately responsible for finding substitutes.

Unless otherwise posted, each scheduled session will begin at 7:00 pm according to the Bridge Studio clock. Four team members from each team must be present and ready to play at that time. A 5-minute grace period is allowed, after which a 3-IMP per minute penalty (starting from 7:00) will be applied to Games 1-3 and to the Total for any team with less than 4 members present and ready to play. If a team fails to have 4 members present and ready to play by 7:20, all Victory Points will be forfeit.

    Prize Details

Prizes will be paid by check made payable to the team captain listed on the registration entry form. A minimum of $500 is guaranteed to be awarded for this event. Higher awards are possible with more participation:
